This little book with its luscious cover enchanted me on the first page. A story of love, music and the fight for survival, this gem reveals its ending right at the beginning. The main character knows he will die; he even tells us where his body will be found. The unfolding of his story, with its revelations of extortion, buried grief, and fractured relationships, is the journey readers take when they open the front cover. Fore-knowledge of the outcome cannot diminish the poignant ending. If I could sing the final page it would be in a hauntingly beautiful minor key.
